WELCOME TO THE APOCALYPSE

In Deuce’s world, people earn the right to a name only if they survive their first fifteen years. By that point, each unnamed ‘brat’ has trained into one of three groups–Breeders, Builders, or Hunters, identifiable by the number of scars they bear on their arms. Deuce has wanted to be a Huntress for as long as she can remember.

As a Huntress, her purpose is clear—to brave the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading ferocious monsters known as Freaks. She’s worked toward this goal her whole life, and nothing’s going to stop her, not even a beautiful, brooding Hunter named Fade. When the mysterious boy becomes her partner, Deuce’s troubles are just beginning.

Down below, deviation from the rules is punished swiftly and harshly, and Fade doesn’t like following orders. At first she thinks he’s crazy, but as death stalks their sanctuary, and it becomes clear the elders don’t always know best, Deuce wonders if Fade might be telling the truth. Her partner confuses her; she’s never known a boy like him before, as prone to touching her gently as using his knives with feral grace.

As Deuce’s perception shifts, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival. The mindless Freaks, once considered a threat only due to their sheer numbers, show signs of cunning and strategy… but the elders refuse to heed any warnings. Despite imminent disaster, the enclave puts their faith in strictures and sacrifice instead. No matter how she tries, Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she’s ever known.

Howdy do fellow book lovers.  Jen's my name and mini reviews is the name of my game.  I came to the conclusion long ago that short and sweet worked best for me as far as reviews were concerned.  And Isalys, being the sweetheart she is, was kind enough to humor me and gave me the green light to supply the blog with good ol' minis.  *wink*

Today's mini review is for Enclave by Ann Aguirre.  Folks, let me start by saying that this read is NOT for the faint of heart.  There are going to be moments where you'll find yourself on the edge of your seat and trying to close your eyes because you feel like you can't bear to read another word.  Then you're going to realize that you can't read with your eyes closed.  Then that's when you, my dear brave hearted reader, will decide to continue your quest to read this book despite the crippling fear you feel.  Why you ask?  Because you will be drawn into Duece's world despite the less than ideal conditions.  You will decide to stand by her as she undertakes several dangerous journeys.  And gosh darn it if you don't let out a rebel yell when she embarks on her ultimate mission.  Did I mention you will be swooning hardcore?  No?!  Well you most definitely will.  Wow...that was a bit...melodramatic, no?  What can I say?  This book does crazy things to me.

All kidding aside, this book had great worldbuilding, amazing characters and an amazing story.  Don't take my word for it though.  Buy, borrow or steal this book and give it a shot.  If post-apocalyptic things are your gig then I guarantee you'll love with this book.
